The Smithdown Pines
A SELF DIRECTED BRIEF TO REFURBISH A WAREHOUSE IN SMITHDOWN ROAD - A MULTICULTURAL AREA OF LIVERPOOL WITH A STRONG YOUNG PROFESSIONAL AND STUDENT PRESENCE.
THE BUILDING WOULD HOUSE FOUR DIFFERENT TYPE OF BESPOKE, RENTABLE UNITS FOR NEW HOSPITALITY BUSINESSES TO TEST AND LAUNCH THEIR CONCEPTS BEFORE FINDING A SITE OF THEIR OWN WHEN READY. WITH MORE AND MORE FUNDING ALTERNATIVES TO BANK LOANS IN RECENT YEARS, THE IDEA SUITED THE NEEDS OF ITS POTENTIAL USES AND THE AREA ITSELF - WHICH HAS SEEN MANY SMALL INDEPENDANTS IN RECENT YEARS MOVE INTO MORE EXPENSIVE RENTED SITES IN THE CITY CENTRE.
A LARGE AMOUNT OF RESEARCH WAS CONDUCTING INTO THE SURROUNDING AREAS AND THE NEEDS OF POTENTIAL CLIENTS OF THE RENTABLE UNITS. THIS ALLOWED ME TO DESIGN THE UNIT AND INBETWEEN SPACES OF THE BUILDING TO SUIT THE DESIRED LOOK AND NARRATIVE OF THE PROJECT. THE BUILDING WOULD ALSO PROVIDE SERVICES REQUIRED TO HELP COMPANIES START UP - FROM BRANDING TO ICE MACHINES.
